Where was the nation to support the farmers when barley was 130 quid and finished cattle were £3.

Maybe a few months of shortages will help the public realise food doesn't just appear in shops.
But then again, the average person on the street would have robbed a shop for a 12 pack of toilet rolls this time 2 years ago, now they couldn't care less.

People have a short memory.

Is now the time for farmers to make a stand and make some demands?

I agree, we would almost be in a position to be price makers instead of price takers. I look forward to selling my non assured wheat this season. We have zero responsibility to feed the nation, we are businesses and as such need to make a profit to continue and invest. Let them eat cake, wake me up when wheat hits £450/t and I may think about doing owt.

Not necessarily. Agriculture needs a surplus for the economy to thrive and for people to live a better life (yes with iphones and trainers etc)..

memories have been short for all those who continued to work throughout lockdowns, now they are all forgotten and back to the bottom of the pile again.
