Feeding cows for sale

Made a start on maize this afternoon and tonight though now rained off. Will wean tomorrow. Got 150 cows to sell as feeders, handful pure lims, 25 pure blondes, probably 85 homebred blues and blondes from genuine 100 % british friesan. Other 40 odd will be bought blue holstein, or lim sim x dairy. Looking for an afu ideally as a one man band and looking to avoid a tb test prior to lambing. Had 2 offers locally but got a couple off weeks before i want them shifted so thought id check im getting proper value. Most would be between 5 and 9 years old with a few older girls but they would worth feeding, as said out of proper british friesans or pure bred so will comfortably put meat on. Changing farm policy and losing a lot of farm buildings so more interest in selling than feeding

There be worth more a lot more Tb tested...
Would they? How much? Local mart has a once monthly sale of non tested cattle. Trade often seems 20/30 dearer than tested cattle simply as numbers there and afu buyers attend religously. Not saying theyre not worth more but seems so many afu s about know as there has to be to source cattle?

Why don't you stick them in there then? Best way of finding out a market value is by taking them to market? If you have 150 would that not be enough to interest the market in holding an extra sale if they've had one only recently? I don't know what numbers of cattle they usually have at the untested cow sales.

And surely if they publish that they are having an extra sale, more sellers will turn up too? Just a few thoughts

Have already sold a few there. Generally a supporter of through the mart. 75 % of sales i guess would be done there. Would lose 40 a head through mart plus haulage, so just testing the water. Wouldnt be 150 on one day, well could be if price was right but think that would be overkill and depress trade anywhere

150 will draw the buyers in . If they know they have a good chance of a lorry load . See if you can do a deal over haulage with the market . Cows are def worth putting under the hammer in my view .
