Feeding Liquid Whey to Pigs

Hello All,

We'll be producing cheese in the coming months and as such, we'll have lots of whey!

Our creamery is based on our farm and we will be raising pigs in the woodland. The plan is to supplement our pigs' diet with whey and mix it with their feed to make a porridge.

I was wondering if someone is doing something similar? How much whey per pig should we be considering?

Thanks

Used to feed it ad-lib to our growing pigs, and it replaced all the water in the liquid sow rations. Feeding it Ad lib can be a bit rich, whatever you do keep it constant, else they’ll either turn their nose up at it gorge themselves.
Fresh is also better. It turns to lactic acid in about 3 days, at this point it’s not really doing you any good, and they won’t be as keen to eat it either.
Alas the price went up 50% last week. Can’t afford to feed byproducts any more, we can’t compete with AD plants.
The one thing I’d say to watch out for.... is the process you use for salting the cheese. If you do it before you press you’ll have a high salt content in your whey, which in turn can cause salt poisoning in your pigs
