Feeding pigs

Got myself some Gloucester old spot x Pietrain weaners , any hints n tips on best feed etc etc etc for them ?

The more natural stuff you get into them ,better thet taste ,have mine a bit earlier in the year to take advantage of acorns and apples

They do love potatoes, see if your local greengrocer wants rid of any waste veg.

If you've a local bakery you could see about getting bread waste from them but you must not use any food waste that has been near meat or even on the same premises as meat.

Ours get through tonnes of them, not met any issues

Boil them ,get an old copper ,and do a boiling every day , few calf nuts or cow cake and a bit of silage ,

Ive only ever owned one pig so take this for what is worth, but I think that potatoes are not harmful to pigs but rather that pigs don't digest starch well, so feeding potato when it displaces something else, may not be a benefit in getting them fat. (I bet it adds to the flavour though)

Ours get bruised barley,,will see soon how they taste

My daughter is feeding barley, wheat, beans and peas. All rolled.
Oh, and silage.
But they're native breeds.

They eat silage , I didn’t think they would .

Not great quantities of it, but she's using a forage based system, with grass and cover crops, so now they're in because its too wet, they get silage. They like it, and it means they have something to pick at always, but just small amounts.
If you're pushing for fast finishing, probably best to leave it out, but that's not her system.

Mine will be outside come better weather , I’d like them to have a diverse diet not just cereals.
