Feeding round bales

I'm currently using a Muck grab to feed my sucklers round bales into a feed passage with my skid steer, I put half a bale in each feeder so they don't waste it otherwise it is too full and they drag it out. Most bales rip themselves in half when I pick them up but the bales off the top of the stack aren't breaking when I pick them up, anyone any tips on what I could do with the bales to help break them in half? I'm looking at a shear grab for next winter, anything else I should be considering instead?
