Feeding whole wheat

I’ve got about a tonne of crap wheat after dressing this year’s seed.

So small grain, bit of chaff and weed seed.

often I feed this out to the birds in winter but was wondering if there is a safe way to feed it to store lambs through a 3 in 1 feeder.

I also have whole oats, barley and finishing nuts to hand.

Maybe make a mix up of oats barley and wheat? But in what proportions?

Use up what whole grain you have through a 3 in 1. Mix it in the proportions that you have so that the ration does not vary. Sell the nuts to someone that doesn't have any whole grain.

Dont do it! Whole wheat will kill lambs........or any sheep for that matter. Speaking from experience from lambs bumping the coils on pheasant feeders.

this is my concern but thought mixing with oats in particular would reduce the risk of acidosis??

Usually mixed with barley half and half or have fed it straight if we have no barley available. Just have to start them off slowly and gradually build up and haven’t had any problems.

treat it with home and dry , dead easy and safe , if you can find a bag , i fed kibbled treated wheat last winter , worked very well , would go through 3 in 1 i shoud think , i would be very careful with whole untreated , needs very careful introduction and inclusion , but works well such is energy content
