What's the best cure for white line disease? I've had a few quite bad recently and even after trimming it out they seem to take for ever to recover. Current procedure is to try to trim it out and give it a good wash before filling in with some copper foot paste and bandaging up for a few days, am I doing the right thing?

Never ever bandage a white line. Block or trimmed to take the pressure off and leave well alone. Bandaging it's just stopping the puss coming out

I agree never bandage a foot infection of any kind, the cow in my photo is ulcerated and invaded with DD, wrapped with topical, but not infected. I'am a big fan of blocking. Our customers had good results treating infected feet with Excenel in addition to blocking. Don't know if your allowed to use an antibiotic, check with your vet.

We can use AB here but need to be carefully especially with zero milk withdrawal ones. I think in a lot of cases AB could well be replaced with some pain relief with equally good results

I've never been a fan of bandagingvon copper sulphate as will stop fresh tissue growth, only time I use it is to shrink interdigital growths. Are you getting pus to drain out when you follow where it's tracked up white line
Yes, puss does drain when I clean it out, will stop bandaging those with white line then aswell

I agree with the bandages I only bandage digital, and pull the bandage off in a week or so, iv had a few white line quite annoying anyone know what causes it? I actualy think I over did it with the formalin 2 weeks ago, last week I got a couple fresh cases. So I'm putting those cases down to too much formalin, starting to use excenel a wee bit but by bugger it's expensive!

The way I sometimes find stones stuck in the white line I would say standing on loose stone does it no good

The main cause of white line, abcesses, and ulcers is Sara because it causes internal inflammation resulting in loss of circulation, equals loss of hoof health. Other than that a possible recent illness. It's impossible to not have any, but if your over 5% annually most likely Sara is present in the herd. Also if you experience a sudden increase in Laminitis, look to problems in the ration.

What is the best thing I can do for this in calf heifer that's suffering badly with lameness. She is incalf for October and would do anything but culling her if I can. This is the third time I've had her in the crush. Thinking of turning the heifers out in a few weeks time so would she improve being outside grazing?

Cull. Will always be a problem.

Us farmers like hard work. Keep an animal like that because she is "good". She calves with feet problems again not long in milk and has a heifer calf with genetics for problems.

Just sold one that last lactation was lame 3 times. Kept her against my better judgment because she was ready to dry off and at the time fine. Calved in and within a month lame again.

Was talking with a trimmer regarding heifer lameness and culling,he was quoting a local farm who'd culled six,I said I haven't culled any,his reply "aye but your battling with a few" :depressed:

3rd time? And you want to keep it? I'm not that keen on hard work
An incalf heifer is worth a lot to a farmer, better than a barren heifer;)(y)
40+ months if the animal in the crush is the same beast
will be just under 3 years at calving, been in calf before, was supposed to calve at 2 years but aborted twin late in pregnancy (about 7 months) but back in calf again (never came into milk) Was hoping she'd improve when turned out
