Feet

Anyone ever block all 4 of a bulls claws with rubber blocks before a period of work to avoid wearing so quickly??
My son said they did it as routine in NZ.
I’ve heard the foot trimmer mention they tried it on a big block calving herd with a lot of cross bred bulls. Worked well. I think they last about 3 weeks before they are worn out. Then just pick their feet up and retrim and reblock

Might give the full blocking a try on some of the Herefords. Barely touch a jersey cross Bull hoof ever.
Bovibond blocks will outlast anything else I have ever had or seen. Even walking long daily distances

This video 100%. We've built it exactly as specified in this video. Perfect cow flow out of parlour, three times a week formalin.

And a picture of a different one for when they're housed. Only one water trough so they have to stand in it to drink. This one's shuttered instead of block.
Looks great, what did you use for the bung/drain pipe?
Any rebar in the cast one?

Went with a and s hoofcare in the end as I’d ordered before the replys. Probably go with hoofcare next tome[emoji1303].Does the demotec glue work on the rubber blocks? How much longer do they last more than wooden cheers

Constructive criticism welcomed...
Over the past few months I’ve started trimming a few feet as waiting for irregular hoof trimmer visits was a pain. This is an in calf heifer which had a crack in the white line leading to an under run sole. What else should I have done? I should have taken the picture before spraying iodine on it.

Looks fine to me. Probably make sure all the loose stuff is totally gone but I’m sure she will be just fine. Most of it’s fairly simple

first thought, cow hasn't got black hooves, they really do make a difference.
I would have used a copper base salve, copper mixed with a bit of water, ab powder, apply and bandage, and keep checking, until right, hfrs are to valuable to lose. Unusual for hfrs to get foot problems like that, is there a cause ?

My thought would be , why does an IC heifer need it's foot lifted ?
Is there a problem with its nutrition ? - a few months ago.
Is there a problem with its ( foot ) environment.
Is it going to need regular attention all its life. If so cull it before it produces heifer calves with the same fault.
Life's to short to have foot problems before they have produced a drop of milk. IMO

A lot of heifers from a Simmental bull we had had similar problems :banghead:. Sucklers are being phased out with mostly black hooved dairy crossbreds replacing them so hopefully less feet problems going forward

Does anyone find any difference between the hooftite winter and normal glues? The winter being the blue coloured one. I've found that wooden blocks are coming off after a few days with the winter glue. Could all be in my head though...
