Think it's 5 cubic meters of usable wood. So the top wood doesn't count, only the trunk and largest limbs.
Logged up, it would need quite alot of 150mm diameter trees to fill a 5 cubic meter trailer.

Taken from a pdf on ash dieback but dead elm will also be exempt. The law changed a few years ago - dying trees require a licence but dead trees or branches are exempt.
Dead trees are exempt. Dying ash trees are a different matter as that gets a bit subjective. I would drop the elms or other dead trees pronto. I've cut some down before that you could nearly push over. Terrible shame and I hope the nation's ash trees don't all go the same way.
