Anyone got any good tip or tricks for fencing, also where do people put there struts/stays on straining posts ? High or low ? For me it depends on the fence and the materials avaiable, would be interested to hear what other people think !

Are you one of the farmers who 'fences' by tying sheep net to twigs in the fence with baler twine and waiting for the hedge to grow to hold it all together?

:)

When I worked for my dad I used to get told in mornings to fix a fence, Only tools available was a chainsaw and string, Used to cut some branches for posts,Atatch netting with string:eek:
Things are different now, I have staples:)

Never hammer the staple into the wire, leave abit of room, you end up breaking the galvanise on the wire and it goes rusty and breaks, regards the strut I do it to roughly to the top of the netting

Box strainer generally takes longer to build but a fair point, only really build these in spots we cant get the tractor and driver to though!

We're back to using creosote treated materials now, more expensive and gloves a neccesity but lasts very well. When you see 5 year old posts rotted off you realise how good CCA was don't you!

How do you fence down a slope:mad: pictures please

I find cursing a lot helps (me not the end result).

I have a bad habit of not using proper strainers, and many more bad habits which may not all fall into the remit of this thread.

If straining mild steel barbed wire pull it up to the required tension, then pull it a few feet away from fence-line in middle of run with some fencing pliers, let go and watch it sag - re strain and secure.

Just takes out that bit of mild-steel stretch.... this all assumes that your strainers are up to it of course!

Dont bother, just use high tensile and do a proper job
