Fendt transmission rebuild cost 25k

I actually glanced at a 2012 724 today in a yard. It’s for sale with 8500hrs on it. Very tidy and relatively well cared looking. Didn’t get a price yet but wasn’t really in the market.

Would it be a very risky buy? I don’t know much about the reliability of the 2012 era 724’s.
Have a fairly new 516 but a few more horses for ploughing could be handy.

All brands go wrong from time to time. Fendt no better or worse than the main brands. Back in the heady days of owning 5 tractors had one Fendt alongside 3 JD and one NH. Saw more spanners than any, didn't stay long here. Now down to one tractor and SP sprayer. Will hire if we need another for short period. Determined to drive machinery cost out of our business. But not at the expense of output - it's a fine line between the two.

Edit, it’s a 2013 machine

I,personally, wouldn't look at any tractor of any make with those hours.I would rather buy a tractor ,of any make, with much lower hours even if I had to use some finance.Fendt, imo, are incredibly dear with high hours and the varios can go wrong with all makes.Just my opinion.
Tin hat !!
To be honest they are the hours at which we have traditionally traded in tractors. We have a 516 (2k hours) and thought about this as a ploughing tractor (perhaps pulling the odd trailer) to take the pressure off the 516.

I may have interpreted this wrongly but it is not a great endorsement of the 516 if you are looking to take the pressure off it after only 2k hours.

No, to be fair I didn’t explain my situation well so I wouldn’t blame you. The 516 is coupled to a 5 furrow plough (20” sods) plus 1.5tn press. I’d like to get up to 7.5kph to achieve the required output. We’re a one tractor farm (250ac) with the 516 being ideal for all other tasks. Part time farming too which makes time more valuable. The 516 isn’t under huge pressure as such.

Why not trade the 516 for a new higher HP Fendt?
Have looked at that, big cost to do it. I’m just weighing up options. A second tractor would be handy at times and the depreciation on a used one should be lower. If a breakdown were to occur, either tractor could take over.

It’s the reliability of a used tractor is the main concern I would have. I wouldn’t mind the odd repair but too much downtime would be a pain.
