Fendt vs. Deere

In comparison to any other engine, Deere are like thirsty alcoholics at a free bar

Deutz engines set the standard for fuel efficiency for over a decade, one of the reasons why Fendt legitimately claimed to be the most frugal tractor you could buy (though the Deutz engine in a Deutz tractor with the zf sourced continuously variable gearbox was actually slightly better in certain scenarios).

With the introduction of the latest emissions regulations, the FPT engines developed for CNH now have a slight edge over Deutz efficiency

If you drive a Fendt, you get way more attention from the fairer sex. That's a fact. I like a John Deere as much as the next man but there is no denying there's a lot of hill-billy/kid-rock/Alabama-squirrel-chasing prejudice against anyone driving such a machine.

I think I have spent over 20000 hours driving Fendt tractors. Unfortunately I can guarantee I have never had a second glance from the fairer sex when driving one.

Mrs Bg is probably quite pleased with that.

Whereas driving a Deere you get more attention from the less gentle sex?

Our buying decisions seem to turn on who we think could keep the machine running for years to come in terms of prompt service which doesn’t cost a fortune. A few gallons of diesel is of little consequence even now for our low annual usage. That means for us a supplying main dealer for the warranty period and then the independent specialists who tend to be more cost effective for our older kit. Our Deere kit is looked after by the ex JD dealers, no reason to change what works.

Don't drive them anymore so I've no figures but Deere motors always seem to do very well in Profi's engine tests.
Deutz engines got a decent reputation for fuel at a time when all Fends were fitted with a vario transmission, while other brands were still mostly selling powershift boxes. Vario and all its engine controlling tech is more mainstream now, so the advantage has disappeared and Deutz are no longer considered number one in economy. They need to play catch up now.
