If the planter has a Ferguson plate then aye , Ferguson grey Ours was early 60s massey Ferguson and is, was Stoneleigh grey am only guessing but I,d think the colour change would be at the same time as the 3 cylinders changed from flint to stoneleigh theirs definitely no flint grey machines that I know of

Ours was red but badged MIL like the loaders, was MIL a MF spin off or did they build under licence?

Aaah the Thimet applicator in the middle usually with a board behind it for the lad (me) to kneel on and ease down the sprouted seed - and I could never understand why I always had headaches at potato planting time [emoji15]
Organophosphate dust rising IIRC [emoji33]

I think that Midland Industries Ltd (MIL) were the sole manufacturers of that planter which was originally sold under the Ferguson banner.
Many of the Ferguson branded implements were produced in a similar fashion i.e Rubery Owen made some of the ploughs etc [emoji6]

Ahh, that's the sophisticated "automatic" potato planter. Have seen that one in grey. The rotating disc had sprung fingers on it that gripped the seed, also had a tendency to squash and cut seed, always ended up with a pile of potato chips at the bottom of the hopper. We only had the manual grey fergie planter, little bell on a land wheel, every time it went ping you dropped a seed down the chute.

I heard a tale of a farm where the bell failed just before they finished the field; so they sang Christmas carols and popped in the seed on the start of each bar! Good King Wencelas looked out etc. Apparently it worked fine as long as the driver sang as well and didn't speed up the tractor!

apropos the ' Christmas Carol' timing to drop the seed, on my year out the driver bust the bell backing into the hedge so we had to wing it. Next day the son says 'Ive fixed the bell for you', he had wired it up to the tractor horn so we burped our way across the field for the next two days, it gave us all headaches !!
