Fergie TED-20

Hi all,

I've acquired a fergie TED-20 and everything on it works well. The only issue im having is with the rear arms... They drop slowly...

I assume that this will be one of the seals in the small ram that raises and lowers the arms? Anything else I should check or try before jumping in?

dont think it will be ram seals as they are piston rings and leak naturally letting the link arms down when the engine is stopped. i would check none of the pins on the lift rods or the cross shaft aren,t partially siezed first.

No it will gradually leak past the piston rings and drop. No fergie would hold up until the zero leak seals were fitted to the 600 series and sometimes not even then

The two diagonal stay bars were an essential part of the drawbar setup, no chance of keeping a constant height without them. Adjusted by sliding and tightening the bolts at the right height for your machine. The T end fits to the lower top link point.

No that's all helpful thanks - it's obvious now why the stay bars are a popular addition.
Should the arms stay raised when the engine is running? Even if the pto/pump isn't running?

No the pto must be turning for the pump to turn and keep the link arms up. That is why when using fergie pto driven machines ie the reciprocating mower the two rack plates were fitted to the bar type top link and the height chain hooked in the top notch when transporting or leaving over night.

It always amazes me what you find in Google Images I found this,
awww.myfergie.co.uk_mediapool_75_758178_resources_10205015.JPG

from a site called I think myfergie.co.uk, obviously a TE20 with a buckrake (like we used to have) and 2 things I had never seen before, a floating top link to stop the buckrake digging in the ground, and another link thing to 'take the weight off the hydraulics'?
I wondered if it was designed to be able to use the buckrake in conjunction with a front loader, assuming it stops the lift coming right up so it doesn't stop pumping?

So I've had a look at a neighbours TED-20 and his arms always stay up after the engine is stopped... Iv'e also discovered that the arms on my fergie occasionally stay up... as if a seal is the issue!?

The arms always drop on fergies, grandfather stopped his mower in the 50's to do something, stopped the engine and as he was fettling the mower dropped slowly and trapped his feet! It didn't crush them, but it trapped him, so all he could do was stand there like a spare part, grandmother got there lunch time and asked how come he'd only cut round three times, he never took the chain off the toplink rack again!
