Whats the problem? I have a liner puller/replacer for this engine if thats any help, located nr Bath
Thanks, it’s my mates. Essentially bought it from a chap who seemed legit, when he got there it was rubbing. Loaded it on the trailer and hasn’t started off the key since, has got it going by towing it, but won’t turn over off the key, has had a new starter and a new battery.
There is a crack in the block but no obvious leaking.
How much for the kit?

I'd have it apart, they are dead easy to rebuild, at least he'd know it was done properly as he could buy another and that could have issues too.
That's his plan now, he just wants to find someone who fancies doing it as although he has a decent mechanical knowledge he's never rebuilt and engine, and there may be other bits worth replacing when it's in bits. I know when my TEF engine was rebuilt they did loads of other bits whilst the tractor was split.
Do you know anyone in the area as he's only up the road from you

Yes........... !! I do know someone but unfortunately he is busy at the moment. Just get a liner kit (you will need to find out if has Chrome liners or normal) Ideally you want normal as they have a wider top lip. But this info will be on the engine number. Bearings/oil pump, head gasket etc etc. Cam is gear driven so no chain to worry about. You can get a valve kit but to be honest by the time you've had the guides done and seats re-cut/head faced you're better off buying a brand new head (they are available for £170) as the machining costs will be circa that. I used a new head on mine and had no issues at all with it. It does have single valve springs as opposed to doubles on the original.
I am happy to help him if he wants to do all the stripping/cleaning etc.

Thanks for the introduction @Loftyrules.

I'm the proud owner of the slightly troublesome MF35. Started to take the head off it tonight to see how bad the damage is, needless to say the head is stuck solid so I've left it soaking with some penetrating oil in the stud holes. If I can't get away with just a head gasket I'll look at splitting the frame. I assume that easier that trying to do liners whilst it's place?

@MrNoo Thats a really kind offer, Lofty has passed on your number so I may give you a shout if I get stuck.

Have you managed to get the head off?

Cylinder head is finally off and the verdict is in. Looks like numbers 2 and 3 have some serious bore scoring. I'm assuming that when it froze and split the block it also caused the liner to become misshaped. Next week I'll try and get the liners our and see if the block is worth saving.
