Ferguson TED 20 ignition light goes out when starting.

My 1952 Ferguson TED20 will not start. I will put a charged battery into it and when i turn the key i get electric to the ignition light. when move the gear stick into the starting position, the light goes out and there is sometimes a little pop from the battery. I believe it is an electrical problem such as short circuit but i am not very experienced in this kind of issue. Can anyone help me solve this issue? thanks.

You’ve got a bad contact on the starting circuit. Either the battery clamps, the connection to the starter or the Earth strap.

I was told by fergy expert when this happens the first thing to check is condition of terminals on starter switch
…. That is switch that closes when gear lever is pushed forward
