fermenting foods for chicken

As Im organic the feed costs are high and just going to increase. I know a few friends who swear by fermenting grains for hens.

Im only small scale and also raising 30 chickens for our own table.

Just wondered if anyone has tried it and see a marked change in the overall costs. I can get mixed corn mix from Marriages via Mole valley. £12 for 20kg. (prob get cheaper through account) I can also add the odd apple from the orchard.

Wonders what % saving I could get from fermenting.
Thanks

Perhaps you should bend slightly! instead of fermenting go half way and just (for want of a better word) Malt the grain. I recon it was about 2008 when we had a wet grain harvest a lot of the grain grew in the ear it had dried out by the time we harvested it and in my opinion this "feed" worked better than Hard dry wheat.
