Therefore should S go on first ?Yara conduct N dose response curves every year, ordinarily first wheat around the 220-240 N mark, with AN pricing currently economic optimum drops to around 180 N IMO……I would be taking the little and often approach. Flat rate of 60-80 kg first pass then drip feed to maximise NUE. Time to use an N-Tester too, I have never known what to recommend more N than planned, always less. Others may differ but that is from my experience of using. My phone has gone crazy with enquires re N-Tester and N-Sensor which I am passing on to relevant people as not my bag anymore.
Heard all sorts, like dropping sulphur to save a few quid……insufficient sulphur will decrease NUE meaning more N in required, for me N rates drop 10-15% now with price where it is…….however it is still the best ROI of inputs. Just need to maximise it’s efficiency. I’ve been banging this drum for years but the savings havent been big enough (according to the farmers) however all of a sudden they are.
Plenty of info out there on NUE, time to use it
