Just can't see gas prices going down with what is going on. Russia and his ambitions if they don't get what they want could cut gas of to Europe it is not a for gone conclusion for them to keep suppling . If or when they go into Ukraine and USA put there sanctions that will possibly cripple some of the Russian aconomy the gloves will be off and the type of sanctions that the USA propose they would not get paid for the gass so why would they send it. This is the situation as I can see it. Not very good but should be a wear of it. Needless to say why has uk not looked at this type of situation governments should be always looking at potential situations many military men would or should have been in the know probably told uk government and they have just sat on it . Plenty of gass in uk if sorsed.

This goes to the stupid ideas of rewilding cutting food production.

As investment in crops increases, I don't expect the "cost" of that to be a reduction in my margin. Spending £500 to make £600 is fair enough. Spending £800 to make £100 is not. There is too much risk at that, compared to switching into spring barley on a one-spray system.

Gas prices have been falling off a cliff since a high of 452p on 21dec 2020 to 175p today.

The last 3 months most AN sold imo will be between £500 and £650 tonne. Gas prices have been between 250p and 300p most of that time. So at todays prices fert should be in the low £400s imo.

Unless the wheat price changes.....

My cropping decision is made with half an eye on the prices in may / June. First priority is cover rent, then look at likely profit and risk. If I can make the same money with less risk and less investment, I'll do that. I expect a 20 percent return on cash invested in growing crop.

Mid October AN was early to mid £600’s what it it is today 🤷🏼‍♂️ About the same.

gas since 13th Oct to now has increased 57%

oct 13th 3.5p/kwh Jan 12th 5.5p/kwh

you are correct in that it did peak at 11.5p/kWh so it has tumbled significantly, but most suppliers withdrew from the market during that spike as it was unprecedented.

Quite user friendly

If 40% supply of something stops (European fertiliser supply) then prices increase significantly, just because the cost of production reduces, it doesn't mean that supply just magically appears overnight to reduce the sales price.

quite simple, less global fert used = less product = higher prices.
food inflation creeping up,
what's not to like ?
if there is not a profit in growing it, stop growing it, they will simply have to make it worthwhile to grow. And fert price, is pretty standard across the globe, so same argument everywhere.
Must be some pretty thick idiots in defra/guv, not to put 2 + 2 together, and realise what will happen.
it's not our job, to subsidise cheap food, at our expense, that's the guvs job.
