I too had discussions with NFU who were adamant that RT would have to act as inspectors to get any retention of more limited use of Urea.
RT is embedded in NFU and Governemnt thinking as the body that enforces compliance (the Policemen) That we have to pay for. The ultimate coercion on the cheap 😡😡😡
It makes me so angry. Other countries are banning AN and we are banning urea. On known flawed science.
basis, AICC, the NFU all appear to be on board. I don’t understand what is going on.

Personally I don't understand anyone buying CF fertiliser? I will never buy it ever again. They put the price up £200/t overnight by stopping production.

They then held the UK government to ransom ceasing C02 production. Received 10s of millions from the UK government to start producing fertiliser again and Co2. Then conveniently paid shareholders a huge dividend.

RT have just tried to introduce a standard limiting urea to certain times of the year but all the unions have told them no so i believe its now shelved. RT is a load off rubbish.

You couldn’t make it up could you…
This really is the kind of blatant evidence of market manipulation that the Monopoly and Mergers Commission should be grabbing with both hands and acting on…

… but they signed off both the Terra / Kemira Growhow joint venture and the subsequent sale to CF Industries, so they’re unlikely to do anything that would prove that they repeatedly made the wrong decision and aren’t fit for purpose.
Just another case of “nothing to see here, move along”.

How many times has selling the unharvested crop months ahead actually
been the best option?
I find most years they only want to pay a small price above the true cost of production taking into consideration average yield data.
There’s plenty of times selling forward would have been a better option, I’m just not very good at picking them!

I remember just after 2018 harvest, we could have sold what was in the shed at £200 for May. Didn’t and waited til May and it went for £150. Could have also flogged what hadn’t been drilled yet for the following November at just shy of £180. Didn’t and sold it at £140.

After that I tried to be clever and sell a few loads forward which resulted in me loading 1 load this November at £160 :notworthy:

Hairy balls not crystal balls unfortunately.
PS quoted this on Friday on basis of 28.2T load
Granular 27N + 10So3 £608/tne
TSP 47% P £536/tne
M of P 60% K. £520/tne

One of the main concessions cf got of the government was that we would keep the eu anti dumping charge in the uk!

No I don’t think it is shelved. It was part of the “offer” NFU made to Government in trying to lobby for a “forth way” which would see straight urea retained for more limited use. RT was to be the inspection scheme for it. The Urea decision has not yet been made, if limited use of Urea is retained expect it to be a RT standard to demonstrate compliance.
NFU keep offering RT up as the method to enforce many legislative changes. Livestock pathway ring a bell? 😉🤦

The important thing is that we don’t want to ban either. Both have their place when used properly. I choose to use BOTH urea and ammonium nitrate according to crop cicumstances, weather and other factors.
The really critical
Issue of having access to Urea is the competition it provides in the N market.
Without it we would be absolutely stuffed in what is a Market that is completely controlled by a VERY small number of players. Add on import duties applied by the politicians and we are being truly shafted.
True competition in the fertiliser market has been a big issue for all EU farming unions, the Irish IFA and French AGPB along with NFU have put a considerable effort into this on a European basis for a number of years.

Agree with all that.
