With the news your subs are going to be early, watch the price 'edge' up!

Exactly my thoughts, just pouring some more petrol on the fire
My thoughts also but as others have said we haven't got it yet and it will be less than last year.

In other countries farmers have received money purely to buy fert!

How much did you get to buy fert? Did you get any at all besides your sub?
No aid to buy fertilizer. Had aid for fuel though and that's all fuel for everybody, public, lorry firms etc. Iirc 18 cents a litre off for 4 months.
To add, derv is 1.98€ or £1.68 at the moment.

A fair few farmers sold wheat forward before the present high prices so haven't yet
seen the extra cash .Fast forward 15months and the world could be awash with grain
bringing p*ss poor prices, planted with expensive inputs .
It will be interesting to see how many dedicated cereal farmers dont need subsidy then.
And what I do? I have wrongly sold forward the last 2 years, at some point that decision will be right, do I change my policy?

Each to their own but I personally wouldn't take too much
notice from advice off grain traders. :)
As I've said before, I like to sell the predicted yield of my 2nd wheats and use that money to pay my fert bill. I try not to think about what might have been and accept I am in a hell of a lot better position than a lot of others, in my own little way.

We took advice in October '20 to lock in a profit on some of the crop just then planted at £160.

In September '21 we could have locked in a profit on this year's crop at £170 but never actually got around to it.

Yes, over many years experience the times you beat the spot market by selling over 6 months in advance is about 10% .
If you have enough grain selling 1 load/ week from Oct to Jul will get you a good average

Most arable farmers don’t need the subsidy. I cannot really understand why it should affect their buying decisions. Far more relevant is the forward price of grain.
Tenant Farmers if the wheat stays around that £300 mark have atleast a chance but not if its back to £200
All you boys sitting on bought farms owned outright & there is plenty who are.
what a position your in.

In autumn 2021 I bought urea late at high prices although lower than current offers for logistics purposes the previous few years always bought n after late October only enough for a 75% rate on winter and spring crops
because of quality issues I priced less wheat than planned and always viewed the 2021 as lower yielding at harvest time had a lot uk priced in January priced another chunk because in January it looked like putin would not be foolish to invited during the Ukraine wet season how wrong were we all
priced the remainder of wheat after the war this paid for the higher fertiliser prices

what to do for fertiliser 2023 harvest
now urea has a stay of execution usually use it in March even on unplanted spring crops cold heavy land low volatilisation but high risk of nitrate leaching fro an
should I buy Enough urea for 50% on winter crops and 75% for spring crops before harvest solve storage t the lime it comes
I will not price 2023 grain till October 2023 backwarddation in the futures is considerable
will price 2022 harvest when it is in the shed unless the weather and crop condition improves in all the worlds grain producers and Ukrainian grain can be shipped out of Odessa

there re not enough ships in the world to cart grain and fertiliser extra long distances
ie Russia to Brazil fertiliser compare to Eastern or western Europe
russia to China grain compared Europe
australia to Europe or North Africa
USA maize from illanois or Ioha to Europe compared to the local e plant feed lot or dairy farm

the maths 60million tonnes of grain from Ukraine is 1000 big ship loads or 850000 rail wagons ( all needing their wheel width changing for European railways )

too many variable
the only certainty is the grain will be needed and farmers need to plant it as efficiently of they can

Rumor has it that cf have sheds full of an but no one is buying at present prices.
The driver told me 3 or 4 weeks ago that the load I had delivered was bagged the day before straight out of the factory. This was Billingham I think.
That was in response to a direct question where I specifically asked him how big a heap did he see stockpiled. 🤷‍♂️

Disagree. 'You boys' on AHAs are in a better position than FBT holders, mortgage repayers and bought 'n' paid for occupiers who value the cost of their capital correctly. Cash flow only tells part of the story.

Why get it out of the back of the shed when its the same as new stuff at the front, it wont go off and many on here are storing for a year so shouldn't be a problem.
