I bowed to peer pressure and bought a load of Amidas today £785/t. Right or wrong will remain to be seen. I had planned to buy a couple loads of liquid fert but didn't like price of it. So this will replace it.

Norway has just warned that gas exports to the UK may be shut off this weekend

A workers’ strike there may escalate with up to 60 per cent of the Scandinavian country’s supplies under threat from industrial action

Time to put the tin hat back on...

aaaaaaand relax

Oslo agreed terms to prevent industrial action; TTF and NBP both corrected downwards

still very high compared to 18 months ago and little respite for Nitrate producers in the region (UK & Europe)

Urea still looks like being the obvious solution

Thought you'd had no rain , make your mind up
We have had very little rain but autumn 20 was about as wet as 19 so last year wasn't particularly great, to be honest it was fairly crap especially with no spring rain for 7 weeks. This year is still looking way better even with little rain. Might not be the 2019 it was looking like a month ago though.

I would say the same here, whether I am paying the price of reducing fertiliser, or it's the year or something else I have no idea, bit of take all in second wheats (Greafton) I think, and it's dying off really quickly. Highest hopes are now for OSR and Winter beans, my first year growing them and they look really well.

Dont relax if you're Germany. Word is that they are close to restricting supply to some gas-fired electric plants.

Cancelled our fertiliser as I’m not buying it at current prices in a falling wheat market which could go into free fall any minute. Done a little trial here and we know we can grow 2t per acre without any fert due to good soil nutrient levels. Think we’ll just drill it direct in October and do normal herbicide applications then use spray on nutrition and leave it at that.
Got a consultant friend who owes me a favour doing an stewardship application and we’re going to put 50% into varying options and then only grow a first wheat on the other 50% without any fert as above.

How the rep take the call about cancelling fert?

Arsey to begin with but when I said I’m not borrowing to pay for it so you’d better not deliver it he soon changed his tune. At the end of the day I put suppliers delivering fertiliser this coming year are taking massive risks. I know historically a farmers word is generally good, we are now in uncharted territory. How many farmers are going to default on payment over the next 18 months? I wouldn’t want to be an input supplier in todays market.

Does make you wonder what we can grow without applying fert.

What wheat varieties would be the best without fertiliser?

We are just on Crusoe and Skyfall and will be blending them I think. That’s the other thing I’ve done as well which is tell another company I won’t be having 80t of new seed this year. I hadn’t confirmed any order but they just assumed we would be doing so in due course.
