I drove past the CF fertiliser factory in Billinghan yesterday. Their yards looked full of multiple 300t tarped stockpiles of AN, neatly lined from front to back, yet the sky high prices are a supposed to be a reflection of ‘supply and demand’ and ‘world prices’.

I think they really mean ‘world *wheat* prices’- in which case pass the Vaseline, touch your toes and get ready for a reaming... 👉 👌

Commodities are just easing slightly these last few days, spoke to our rep and he's had a few farmers cancelling their provisional orders at £279... so maybe it'll come down a little in time?

This is the 20 year chart for the world price of natural gas:

My price for fert this past season worked out at 54.34p/ Kg of Nitrogen applied.
For next season at £279 Tonne of 'Blue Bag' it would work out at 80.87p/ KG N. A difference of 26.53 p/KgN.
Times that by a rate of 210 Kg Ha (£55.73) and divide by a nominal yield of 9.4 tonnes/ Ha (3.8t/ acre), and what does it mean?

It means some overpaid pansy in a suit at CF thinks UK farmers are ripe for paying them an additional £5.92 for every tonne of wheat we produce. And even then they're threatening to pull the 'early offer' price tomorrow, 24 hours after releasing it...

It's time we asked our local fertiliser reps to send a message to CF and their friends ;):
