The BBC aren’t reporting this in the same fashion as the poxy fuel shortages. Doesn’t suit the we don’t need farmers narrative.

They are too busy shouting how terrible the govt are for letting high energy, high polluting businesses fail at the loss of twelve jobs, despite it being exactly their libtard anti carbon agenda that it helps.

BBC will get a d notice before it runs a "you will go hungry" story.

I very much doubt any leader in the western world has considered that a remote possibility, I’m sure some in the third world will be well aware of it though and will have protection in place to try to stop it happenin

Expensive bread would be nothing more than a water cooler topic for most people in the western world but is life or death for others.

Remember the gilets jaunes riots in France started with carbon taxes. It doesn’t take much….

Write comments in the Mail and Telegraph etc. Etc. suggesting major scarcity of wheat due to Gas and N shortage across the world. Enough comments and the markets will quickly react. I can't understand why Harvest '22 wheat is so cheap.

Remember them, I was standing on a motorway in France when they first started and the traffic was brought to a standstill 👍

I'll apply tin hat, because I live in a major steel producing area, but keeping these polluting behemoths going - especially as many are foreign owned - seems entirely contrary to policy of low carbon, high skills.

For the money they will clearly spaff bailing out "strategic" industry rather than import stuff from China, they could put so e half decent infrastructure in place round here, and actually develop a high tech industry.

Anyway, way off topic now.

I suppose that wearing metal comes from somewhere else Tesla. Bit like food comes from Waitrose.

Well let's be fair £190 Wheat isn't cheap, but I agree that it seems like either the traders don't believe it can happen or they know something about the fert market we dont.

Hey, govt policy isn't set by me. I bet adding up the support spaffed at supporting UK heavy industry over years is eyewatering.

If govt policy is low carbon, high tech, high salary, then it can't at the same time (with a UK based climate conference soon) put hand in pocket to bail out these firms *again*.

Uk govt bailout works like this:

Unviable UK industry, hampered by UK planning and environmental laws looks shakey.

In a bid to "safeguard jobs" govt creates rescue package whereby foreign company come in to "invest"

Foreign company doesn't invest. It strips all the experience and knowledge.

Accountants run the firm on a shoestring.

External crisis happens like gas price. Foreign company says jobs at risk. Govt spaffs money. Foreign company pays all this money to its Cayman subsidiary as a dividend. Firm shuts anyway, and suprise suprise, the coffers are bare; HMRC is biggest creditor; pension funds has three magic beans in it.

I'd be happier watching them go to the wall, and if needed nationalise them for tuppence.

But how would the Conservative Party get its funding if it did that Tesla? Donations from wealthy 'forin' businessmen is life and blood to Billies mates. Nationalisation is the sort of retrograde throwback to the pre Thatcher years thing Jeremy Corbyn spoke of.

Can't see the point of chucking £50m at a company that pockets it then goes bust, rather than letting it go bust, buying it for £1 and then pumping the £50m into the actual business.

Accountants, lawyers etc based in the UK UK that act against the national I retest should be horse whipped round the town;each limb tied to a sturdy ox; and the pieces displayed on spikes across the land.

When are you standing for Parliament? And under which political party? Or as an independent? - you have my vote.

You don't get to parliament by having good ideas and principles. You get there by being a greasy, backstabbing two-faced, brown-nosing Judas.

Or being a trophy black/ disabled/ female / gender curious type in a marginal seat.

The day of the proactive, pro efficiency civil servant has long gone.

John Bright would be my favourite mp.

I agree with that but I’d also say it could be applied to U.K. agriculture:
Why spend money on ELMS propping up rents and land prices when without government subsidy land would fall back to a realistic price and stuff like mine here next to the forestry wouldn’t be worth cropping but could be bought up cheap or just “let go” for rewilding.
The forestry commission bought the farm next to us for 35p an acre in the 1950’s before the government decided to underpin farming businesses. Before that time those that weren’t viable failed and rewilded by default and were planted up with trees at little cost to the taxpayer.

There is 25 acres diametrically opposite us that was never in IACS, SPS or BPS. It isn’t drained either. Nobody bothers with it. It’s rewilded by default. No expensive seed mixes or management needed. It’s turning into scrub. The owners hope to sell for industrial development tesss down the line but in the mean time it’s an excellent “free” nature reserve.

The way the environmental climate is changing, the owners of that land over the road could be shooting themselves in the foot if they wish to sell for development one day.
The day can’t be far away if it’s not already here where developing such land will raise more objections than developing productive farmland, might even get additional protection through laws/planning policy
