Completely agree, and unfortunately it will be the third world countries that suffer.

If you can get UK AN for £600ish then buy some as there doesnt seem to be any logic behind the price.

Could this spell the end of UK manufactured AN????

in case anyone missed the latest CF results.
I’m no accountant………
There is a sizeable impairment charge of $495million relating to the uk.

absolutely!

~£600 is the cheapest Nitrogen in the region, by miles. The French are paying somewhere around £680 equivalent.

India just paid the UK AN equivalent of ~£680/mt. That was for just shy of 500kt.

Their next tender is already underway; this time with traders participating. They need ~3mmt before the end of March. With China and Russia curtailing exports to varying degrees, the Indian supply options look limited. 150kt from the last tender will ship from Egypt; the top source for the product to the EU and UK markets.

To repeat. ~£600 is Xmas come early. Get it covered - from what I heard, offers expire at cob today.
Well you convinced me, I bought a bit more.

I'd be interested to know from those in the trade, if someone rang up a supplier of decent granular urea to order 10,000t or whatever, how soon could it be delivered, bagged and git out to farm in the UK? It must be two weeks just the journey, plus getting the boat chartered, loading, unloading, port capacity, bagging, lorries etc.

I think the ship has sailed (lol) for much arriving in good time if not already ordered.

Ok, I'm not clever enough to understand every aspect of world politics and economics so im asking in layman's terms, how bad is this nitrogen supply/ price issue really going to be?
Yes I understand that it's impossible to know for sure but are we talking mild disruption, small increase in prices and less choice on the shop shelf? (Which is uncomfortable for the western world but not life threatening) Or are we talking huge reduction in world wheat yields and massive famine in Africa etc.?
Obviously I hope we are talking about the former because the latter isn't something any of us really want to witness is it?

Well I would predict a flour shortage
It takes extra Nitrogen to make milling grade wheat and as many farmers don’t have enough N fert to go round they will be looking at cutting back N application

a crop will grow without much N, but it won’t be milling grade

no milling wheat = no flour

Why can't Fert companies just have a rolling price? ie pick the phone up and get a price like any other commodity? Instead we are threatened continuously on every price release how we should be buying, as it is going to go up in three days time!

you can with a lot of products like urea, but some people like to mull the price over for days and days and try and beat the price by ringing round then complain when they ring back and it’s been withdrawn and is now more money! I agree it should be like the grain market, deal done, move on. 👍

There is also very few commodities like it for variations in price between companies.

I hope everyone realised what an awful company CF is now and how they have shafted farmers in more ways than one in recent years.
Colluding behind our backs to get urea banned on an old flawed Adas experiment. I was very pee'd off when I heard one of the main people leading the consultation on this with government is a well known ‘independant’ agronomist who just seems to appear in many cf publications and others demonising urea over the years.
I hate how they play on the ‘buy British’ rubbish. Companies like this are a leach.

when or if the world underproduces fertiliser and this knocks on to a world grain production reduction
the world will have to ration grain there are 2 mechanisms for rationing
either by pricing the grain high enough for usage to be reduced to supply
or by govenments

either way there will be a lot of very unhappy people

if we do get into a big production deficit it will take several years to get stock levels high enough

in the last 30 years when one area has had a production short fall there has been unlimited resources at farmers disposal to increase production

I dont agree with how they work, but the men at the top will be on massive salaries and bonuses to make as much money for the shareholders as they can.And they are succeeding, ethics dont come into it.

longer term ethics and perception are important and do come into it.
CF have cashed a lot of goodwill in and completely undermined their long term promotion to farmers about loyalty to British products.
Mid term I would say their strategy suggests in their view they won’t be producing AN in the UK for much longer.
