Same sh!t different country. Funny reading the replies its all very familiar talking about broken calculators and renting the whole lot to a neighbour. I think the most sobering point I took from it was that most of those farmers had poor/disaster harvests this year so with already poor bank balances they are having to fund the most expensive crop they have ever grown. If mother nature doesn't play ball they are in serious trouble. Nervous times

Heard of one big independant ag suppliers main man advising his clients to hold off buying fert until the new year now.

Been a few saying that for the last £400, it will reach a top at some point, when that is who knows!

We have ordered imported 34% N at £615, my take on it is I'd prefer a clamp full of expensive silage than an empty clamp

When you graze even if it is dry the action of cow feet trampling grass it grows less it is a fact ,zero grazing you will produce more grass.

Probably true if your turning out 500 hungry milkers on tender ground. I prefer to let mine feed themselves than hauling it to them 24/7 and coping with the slurry

Many intensive highly stocked farms will be in the same boat. Interesting how/if the fert price effects land rents next year, not going to stack up for many.

Do an experiment yourself only thing you need to do is walk a line yourself in a field with no cattle in it and the grass will nt grow the same it has to be a regular walk not just a one of in the same line cattle walk a lot over a field when grazing.

Well it's the opposite theory of @Kiwi Pete. The holistic grazers love a bit of trampling.

Several passes of heavy machinery to cut, spread, row, chop and haul grass also have an effect along with subsequent passes with fert and muck

Local agent around here says grass lets will ne dearer this spring as peopke will take extra grass keep instead of fertilizer
