Fertiliser Price Tracker

irish farmers journal reporting eu gas prices have fallen 50% in the last 3 weeks if it stays down surely some chance of nitrogen prices falling by may
As said, from a spike that was an all time high.
It would be more meaningful to compare current gas prices to a longer term average, I don’t know the answer but how do today’s prices compare to a year ago

To be fair I'd class the Farmer's Journal as the only farming publication worth looking at.
I grew out of love with the Farmers Journal as it seemed to be nothing but dairying for a few years.
Things have become a bit more balanced now to be fair with more focus on arable so I’m back reading it each week.
It’s not huge money either at about €3.30/wk.

i stopped getting it because all the doom and gloom stories
i am depressed enough
with out headlines telling me how more red tape higher charges, less sfp etc.
the crossword used to pass a Thursday night for me otoh
i just couldnt face the constant negativity
the also used to announce about new enviro schemes etc
then have no detail when i went foraging for info inside the paper
just flashy headlines
i gave up buying it ,which was a pity as it was the last hard copy paper i used to buy.
i used to get the sat edition of the irish times
but too many anti farmer articles and viewpoints meant that i stopped getting that as well.
immsmc the agri back stabbing feckers used to have a stand at the ploughing match.
sickening

If you look at any form of news nowadays (maybe it was always so) you are faced with negativity.
I agree that the IFJ used a forest or two over the past 2 years flying kites about what “could” happen in the next CAP. I don’t read every article, just those that catch my attention.

I deliberately avoid negative news as it’s not good for one. My view is that bad news is going to happen whether I hear about it or not, unless it’s providing an opportunity for me to avoid a loss or make a gain I’m not interested and will ignore. If some poor soul gets murdered somewhere, I certainly won’t read it.

Anyway, nobody wants to be hearing Irish lads yapping about an Irish paper on the fertiliser thread of a U.K. based forum.
Back to something more positive - fertiliser……..oh.

Just following on about the standard of journalism now in both industry and the "news" press, (though, it may have been always thus), it is mostly just a sweep of the Police incidents reports or of an industry's bad situations. This is where the easy headlines are found and a sense of fear and aganst is easily generated. There is more good news about and far more good people about, but they just don't generate good headlines or media sales.
When the genuine important bad news stories happen (like, I fear a global food shortage due to the unafordability and non existance of N in the developing countries), people don't realise how serious this is. The press perhaps "cry wolf" too often with triviality.

There's cheaper gas in the usa but they're still paying $1000 usd for urea.
From what I’ve heard and read the natural gas price has only a small part to play in the price increase,it’s what the market will bare. Grain prices went higher on the back of a n American drought and this at a time when production of urea was slowed by various reasons gave a perfect storm.enough farmers haven’t committed to buying that it’s not going to matter overall. Mine is bought and paid for and will be stored on farm so I know logistics won’t be involved at seeding time.

I contribute on a motoring forum and when the topic was Whats going to be news in 22? I made a post about food shortages and was totally shot down by a ag commodities trader of 10 years who belittled my comments and according to him Tescos will look after the population! I hope he is wrong!

No. Tesco will look after their shareholders and themselves.

And still tell us they're saving the planet by importing the cheapest Eastern European mystery horse meat, while selling 'meat alternatives' with more plastic packaging than product.

fine when prices are low, and surpluses, completely the opposite, when there shortages, they will struggle, simply not used to taking prices, completely used to giving them, they might struggle to cope, and hope they do !
They cannot control world prices, but one thing that won't change, is their profit.
