Fertiliser Price Tracker

I’m just interested, as you mention it a couple of times, is electricity a significant input for yourself? It’s just I might watch with more than a little interest what some inputs are doing here, but electricity is way down the list🤔
Long way behind the likes of feed and fertiliser but none the less, several thousand pounds a year.
I’m not fully up with what current electricity prices/what price I’m likely to have to pay when I renew my contract later in the year but there is talk of electric prices doubling so that’s several thousand pounds more on my costs, it’s certainly not a negligible amount

That’s a lot of electricity.
Thinking back to my past, even our little family engineering business with circa 20 guys welding, the electricity bill wasn’t significant.
My biggest spend here by miles is frigging red diesel. And thank goodness I never have to dry grain👍

From memory about 50,000 units a year, currently around 17p a unit.

It doesn’t help the way Scottish power bill, sometimes taking large monthly payments then when the account is well in credit significantly reducing them again

At one of our farms we had that which was annoying - that one, where we don’t live, now has a fancy radio controlled meter so now we get an actual bill each month👍

I’ve just ordered a truckload of Bela Alan 27%N 9%S @ £634/ton. February delivery.
Couldn’t risk waiting any longer, in case Russia invades Ukraine, which is a very real and somewhat imminent risk.

Am aiming to cut down by 15% on last year, when I also cut down by 20% from a ten year average. This will mean less output from the farm, but nothing like that much, dependent mostly on the weather.

That’s £17900 +VAT for one truck load of 28.2 tons. Payment split into three monthlies at no extra charge. They offered six months for £3/ton extra but during that six months I will need another two truck loads. So budgeting to pay over six months would seem like financial suicide to me. As it is, a second load will need paying in June.
