Tactics have a similarity to 1939
just like 1939, a line has to be drawn, if not, putin will want all the ex USSR countries back, no secret he imagines the return of the USSR, with him as president for life.
where do you draw the line ? That is, of course a political decision, then think about what politicians we have, to make those decisions, doesn't fill one with confidence.
Nato was brought about to keep the peace in Europe, following ww2, and one would have thought they would be pushing diplomacy hard, after all, this is about expansion of Nato. But most of it's European members, have been sadly lacking, in their financial commitments, france might shout, but is not a member, and macron seems to threaten, but not follow through.
The UK, is one country that has nearly kept up, and has been relied upon by others, to 'cover' their shortfall. And the UK has a military presence in the baltic states, who fear russia has designs on them, now another military presence in the Ukraine. At least we can say our guv, is actually doing something.
But the main danger, is apathy in the politicians, and general public, there is an assumption that there will never be another serious war. War, is nearer now, than at any other time, since ww2, if putin kicks off, china will invade taiwan, as it will assume, military sights, are elsewhere.
We are in truly scary times, and we must be careful not to assume nothing will happen, because there are plenty of terrorist sponsored countries, that will quickly jump in, as well.

The presence we have in Ukraine, at Ukraine’s request, is limited to military strategic advisers and trainers. We also supply them with a limited range of short range defensive weapons. Ukraine is not in NATO but not because they choose not to be, they want to be part of it. However it has been diplomatically prudent to appease Russia and keep it out of NATO. Putin is adamant that Ukraine is part of the Soviet Union while Ukrainians hate the Russians and distrust them absolutely as aggressors. The paradox is, of course, that if Russia does invade Ukraine, which seems more likely than not at the moment, it will have borders directly with several countries that actually are in NATO for precisely the reason that we see unfolding. So much for Russia’s buffer between themselves and NATO then, which they will have dismantled by their own military actions. It does indeed have echoes of Germany’s invasion of several countries but principally Poland before the Second World War.

The number of people living in Taiwan who describe themselves as Taiwanese rather than Chinese is now at an all time high compared with 40 years ago.

The number of people in East "Ukraine" that identify as russian is between 60 to 80 percent.

Currently the situation is that the Ukrainian military with whatever western backing is battling actual breakaway sepetarist groups supported by Russia. Does russia need to invade? No, it's standing by to "reinforce" the new Luhansk / Donetsk republics when they ask them to come in

Anyway, urea £745/t today I was told.

The Eastern part of Ukraine held a vote and voted in favour of Russian control. The Russians ( Putin) said they didn’t want them. Unlike Crimea which went the same way, this eastern part offered the Russians nothing except an elderly expensive population with knacKered old industry.. The Americans aided the overthrow of Ukraine’s president 7 years ago, Bidens hand in this. Short range missiles threatened but now off the table. Was likened to Russia taking over Canada putting nukes there. The Russian forces were not at the border but 200 k back, numbers reduced by 10000 at Christmas to diffuse things a bit.

You have been watching Russia Today RT, a Russian propaganda station pure and simple.
