Fine if someone takes over their UK plants, otherwise that leaves us fairly high and dry, with no domestics N production, and solely reliant on imports…… not ideal?

It has been mooted that they can’t get Ince going again. They are going to turn it into a hydrogen terminal. Mind there is a lot of organic manure being produced, especially regarding CFs margins.

No domestic n supplier is a less than ideal situation I agree, however which is worse, no domestic supplier or one that does active harm to the marketplace?

despite all the lessons of the last 2 yrs the world still seems convinced that getting everything imported is a great idea and I can’t see that fert is any different

Don't think it's available. Litfert and Pulan weren't coming to the market as they couldn't match the prices CF and yara had.

Was offered Borealis N, it was similar price to yara/CF.

Agreed, unbeleivably good. Our maize drill is particularly fussy on fert, it tends to mash it a bit. The borealis absolutely flew through and stayed 100% accurate start to finish. Even yara prilled N can get a bit tacky in the hopper from time to time.

Increase in barley prices this year will only cover next year's fertiliser. Not going to be much better off.

Nitram is 34.5% N which means there is 34.5% N per tonne = 345kgN per tonne

in old money that’s 34.5 units per hundredweight (50kg)
Or 17.25kg/N per hundredwieght

so
At £290/tonne the N costs 84.05p per N
Or
42.02p per unit

so 4 cwt/acre = 4 x 34.5 = 138 units x 42.025p = just shy of £58/acre

1 tonne = 20 cwt so £290. / 20 = £14.50/cwt x 4 = £58.

so using the new season price of £635 (ish)
Those 4 cwt/acre now = £127/acre

£69 extra per acre or £23 per ton on a 3t crop for N alone.
What was barley in Scotland 12 mths ago? I'd like to think if prices remain relatively stable we will be better off as grain growers.
