Fertilizer replacement

How much value would hen muck lose over winter if stored under cover? I can get a fair bit locally but come the spring everyone will be after it

At the moment it's £10 ton delivered so a couple of ton to the acre sounds reasonable but I expect if it's spread now we won't get the benefit of having it in the spring

Mix it with your straw from a covered yard and pull a sheet over it in a clam. Would be interesting to see what would happen.
You make a seriously good muck too spread! This is what we used too do in the winter, 20t of battery muck a week tipped up and just keep cleaning the cattle out into the pile all winter. Then when you load it up in spring it all mixes and he’ll you can grow some grass!
Unfortunately the landlord next door set up a wedding venue so spreading hen muck had too be kiboshed!!

Can legumes be grown for forage and round baled
Red Clover here yes , put a bit of Hybrid Ryegrass with it , that will boost the yield and add Sugar to aid fermentation , I also add some annual clover to mine that boosts it first year ,. Depends on your ground though , can you grow Lucerne , no hope of that here , I've not gone overboard with clover here as all the slurry that comes in gives me problems with docks though

This was my 1st year growing Lucerne, it’s been really successful but still learning. All baled not possible to clamp. Only fert was a little K. 3 cuts as 1st was late due to wet may. Early weed control was challenging.

It doesn’t like compaction and lots of slurry an issue but I can see the area increasing.
