Filling 1/2 tonne seed bags

As above really. I've done it with two people without issue - another person on the tractor would be handy though to speed it up.

Make sure you get the bag sat nicely on the ground square, and keep dragging it upright. Too easy to fill one side (front) too much and it wants to fall over forwards.

Can you come and give me a hand, I’m on my own! Oh and as the sheriff of Nottingham said in Robin Hood prince of thieves “bring a friend “.

I used to hang a bag by its four handles on the forks of a loader, and held it up so it was just above the ground. This then held the bag open and allowed it to fill evenly. I once tried it directly below the combine spout

I have done it single handedly
and we used to go round the fields and fill the bags near the gate leaving them for the drill
I now have a 6 inch auger and fill from a trailer in bulk a lot safer and while waiting for the drill to be filled check the coulters and seed pipes
weaving 5 tonne hopper
I do not thing getting under the back to open it is a safe operating practice

Agree with you on seed bags. That practice wouldn't be allowed in any other industry.

I was impressed to see one farmer had tried to tackle it in the FW inventions competition, but if I'm honest having watched the video I think he's just swapped one risk for another. I would't fancy standing under the loader/bag cradle like that.

I manage on my own. I fill the grain trailer and tip it up slightly. I have the pallet times on the front loader holding up the straps. The trick is to let a bit of grain out at first and cover the bottom of the bag and make sure none of the bag is crumpled over. The bag has to be resting on the floor. Then fill the rest of the bag. It's only an 8 tonne trailer with a small grain chute which helps a lot. Make sure you do it on concrete just in case you have a few spillages!

How long does it take with a 6 inch auger per tonne and is it okay with oats and cover crop seeds?

Never measured the time but we have cut the some of the bars that restrict the flow especially in oats

when we want a lot of weight in the drill hopper we use 2 tonne then refill dry hard conditions or beans in drier spring

oats cover crop 30 ha a fill up

filling seed bags in the wind today has been a bit challenging. We have a hopper that sits next to the opico but still hard work.
Have used sleepers as ramps for a trailer before to get a bit extra height.

has anyone used a combine as a seed cart? Obviously not with dressed seed.

I gave up on this and modified an old grain bucket so that it has a opening slight narrower than the drill hopper and fill from that.
I did similar last year... I filled an empty fert bag with empty fert bags, put it in one side of the bucket and used a few straps to hold it there. Could then fill the empty half of the bucket from the trailer and tip these half buckets straight into the hopper. It works a treat with a 3m but I cant reach the hopper on the contractors 6m drill with the tractor bucket so I guess I need to do some bagging this weekend :(
