It'll be fine for testing purposes, not for regular use.

I love doing dangerous and dodgy things to save a dollar, but I'd be hesitant to be anywhere near that, especially for the amount of bags you're going to be lifting. Maybe look at using two chain blocks at once so you have a bit of a failsafe.

Why don't you lift them up there with the loader and just chain them up to the box section? Provided you don't fall off the ladder, it's a far safer option, and you save a hundred bucks.

I'm surprised no one has made a quick release fert spreader with a similar release mechanism to a bale feeder.
Yep you can get quick hitches but it still requires you to drop the pto.
Yeah I have been thinking of that. Lifting up with loader, then chaining up and over the box section so I don’t have to climb up anything

That's an interesting way to do it....it sounds very labour intensive. How many kg/ha are you applying annually for your spring and autumn fert? Not talking about N.
About 40 ton. Usually just in spring but looking to spread it over spring and autumn

Crikey, that's not much actual fertiliser for a farm that size. Or am I missing something?
We put on a fair bit of phasN when the ground is damper, and we crop around 30ha a season which gets lime and base fert of whatever is required when the soil is tested. None of this fert is included in that 40 ton, ( works out to be about 165kgs/ha by the time the crop paddocks are taken out of the total area) but is included in the total fert spread. Probably an extra 10-15 ton base fert for crop paddocks depending on what is required when the soil test is done. But yes we do use a fair bit of urea but always coated . We are trying to use less but until we improve grass species I don’t think the grass would grow by itself. If we didn’t have to use it we wouldn’t.

Slip on ones are available but only really suitable for larger forklifts (i.e. 3t+) because of how far they push the load out. Could get dicey with 1t bags
Like this

I've seen a few home made jobbies that have the second set of forks directly above the main ones but they're a bit harder to use because you've got to get off and thread the hooks around the lower forks.

Flipping the forks is easy enough, easier with two people though depending on the length of the forks that are on it.
That lifter, theres no reason for that middle bar and the bag could be slung in between the main forks 1 at a time

when we need extra lift height for the seed drill we made a bracket to bolt on to the pallet forks, stops the bag sliding down the fork, gaining you extra height

7 pages to load bit of fert in a spreader, wow! 😮
yes what a palaver  and there have been threads on the subject in the past.

our bag crane weighs no more than 200 and somatt kg, its 350mm further back with the the spreader ,its cert.to lift a tonne, it has legs on it for stability if using a smaller tractor when loading and it telescopes to 5metres ,yes 5 metres out further and higher than the average fe loader .

just put one bag less in the spreader if extra weight is a worry, just because its a 4 bag spreader doesnt mean to say it has to have 4 bags

and wtf happened to thinking about stuff for yerself ? eh? what did we fudging well do before the internet and all? eh?

Oh don't be like that, there's nothing like mulling over the constant stream of entertainment and wisdom that is TFF, goes well with my morning cuppa.

If we couldn't talk sh!t on the internet, we'd have to revert back to favourite pastimes of the old time farmers, i.e. a bit of wife beating, telling our crying children to harden up and mumbling endlessly to ourselves about how rubbish the government/the neighbour/townies/society is. God forbid we might even have to do a bit of farm work with all our new found free time 😦
