Filling quad with petrol from Jerry can.

Is it just me that finds it almost impossible to fill the quad fuel tank without drips, spills or other general fuel wastage?
The tanks aren’t easily accessible and visibility is limited.
Quad in question happens to be a Honda but they’re all similar.
I usually get a couple of Jerry cans of fuel at a time and use a standard clip on spout.

Has any one a simple solution?
Full tank please without spillage!

Get one of these , we use them for our bikes and they are great . Turn upside down press down when it’s full lift up no spills job done .

You can buy 10 litre plastic fuel cans with a screw in spout. I've got one.

When I was running Honda 300 bikes, dirty fuel wasn't a big problem as I could easily drain the carb and empty the water trap on the fuel tap. With the 420, each episode of dirty fuel has cost me about 150.00 as it means a visit to the workshop and a new internal filter on the pump and clean the injector.
Therefore I never fill now without the funnel with a gauze filter.
I use a 20l jerry without a spout.

I like the rubber end... Used the plain ones for decades

Your not alone.....I have a fuel funnel and old towel to place around the immediate body work. I suppose a little trick is to put no more than 15l in a 20l Jerry as you know as well as I do it gets easier to pour from that point

Turning the Jerry can on it’s side to pour saves a lot of sloshing making filling easier. I fill the buggy with old army Jerry’s and on their side you don’t really need a funnel.

+1 for a Jerry can spout, but with the cheapo plastic end replaced with a foot of 3/4 rubber hose, which keeps the can away from the handle bars.

And put a finger over the ‘air hole’ on the base of the spout when you want to slow the flow to a trickle.

Newer Honda quads with the tank to the side are a pain you can’t tell when there nearly full and over flow a little bit when filling right up

You know it's kind of funny. All of these changes are supposed to be for emissions and safety. They're just more dangerous and wasteful. We're forced to use these stupid little self closing fill cans now - about all you can find unless you order something online and the fuel tanks don't have any sort of built in funnel setup anymore. Spills everywhere if you don't have 3 or 4 hands to operate everything. Only way to fill anything is to use a separate funnel and take the spout off of the can.

And the neck is very shallow so if you use a funnel it can fall over. I have a couple of Jerry cans and three of those spouts, two of which leak even though the rubber gasket seems sound. On one can the all leak. Resorted to funnel and as usual this morning with a full 19ltr can the funnel fell over splashing petrol all over.

I use a jerrycan and spout and have no problem apart from the time it takes. The secret is to tip it sideways first with the can's fuel filler at the top, then turn it when the can is half empty. At least that's how I think I do it, but it's so second nature now that I don't usually think much about it. I suppose you could say there was a bit of a knack to doing it without spillage.
