Filling the fert spreader

On the old fert spreader i had a sort of platform made out of a wooden plank and some metal bits on the rear end where someone would stand and cut the bags of fert to fill the spreader. It was kinda crude but it worked.

I changed to a bigger, 5 bag spreader and i would like to make a similar platform. It's a Rauch (kuhn) axis 30.2 and before i start, i was wondering if anybody has made something like this and could give me a picture/ideea

I do all mine from the ground putting 5 bags into a Kuhn spreader just use a sturdy broomstick with a combine knife section screwed to the end, works a treat and you don’t have to put arms into harms way underneath a suspended weight!!

Thanks for the replies, i guess i got used to being able to see the content of the spreader before filling. Also, useful if i need to fill the spreader to the top and it won't take x whole bags so the last one must be cut halfway up and moved around to fill it up nicely. This is what i have on the old spreader and i want to make a similar platform for the new one. i'm just looking to have it better built.

Your old step looks like the frame obstructs the fins, surely that affects the spread pattern.

Personally I‘d make the hopper 1ft taller, then cut the bags with a knofe on a stick. You can see into the hopper fine, and move the bags around a lot easier, from the loadall seat. Why be bent over a hopper, getting dusty, with that weight near you when you could be safe in a cab.

Used to have a ladder hung on one side behind back wheel, could easily slit bags from there. Was originally there as had bag lifter, so stood there and worked crane.
