Filling trailers

Is it just me, I learnt to fill trailers from the front. Gives weight for traction, but more importantly holds the ring in the PUH.
Just watched a video of a tractor taking a load off a combine, modern Lexion trailer possibly 10 + years old.
No criticism of the driver, but he loads right from the back leaving front empty.
is that what all do?

3/4 fill the front first, so I can see to the back.
Then top off from back to the front.
saying that I drive the combine now so not my problem.

@Exfarmer you are correct.front first for weight.imagine loading beet trailers back first in the wet.

I always fill level with the sides moving to the back they top off moving back to the front. Soon learn when doing potatoes in the wet that anything else means you will be towed everywhere.

I learnt loading spuds to load front to back then top off back to front when i was at a Saturday job in my school days
That was all 2wd tractors so turning at the end of a row got interesting otherwise.

I love threads like this, shows how differently people do the most mundane stuff.

For what its worth, I learned to fill a trailer front to back, unless its raining in which case cover the whole floor as quickly as possible! In practice, if it's not going on the ground its better than nothing.

I load the trailers with the combine, tractor stays at one/same speed and I speed up or slow down to load level, I like to start at the front as I can always back of I little bit but can’t always speed up if sitting at 100% engine load

First tank in middle, then 2nd tank front until I can see the grain then back to front. Hard to judge the back when your looking uphill through a dusty Perspex window, have camera on back looking forward...

Always put a tankful in the front and put the second in the back.

You'll snooker yourself loading the back first when silaging if there is no weight on the hook although forager driver can usually see far better than me anyway.

When you were filling single axle trailers while driving your MF135 (or was it a horse) , you had to fill from the front @Exfarmer ........ otherwise your traction would be lost.

Todays double axle trailers with 150hp tractors towing them,do not have that problem !!

I've always filled in layers. Always get weight in the front first. Sometimes the bit in the front is plenty to spin to the gate and the back stays empty.

We never fill our trailers right up , x2. 3/4 tanks is just a nice load that isn’t going to spill over . First tank in the front then the back . Cart tractors on auto steer beside combine using the same heading and run at set speed that the combine driver tells them to . And always load heading towards the field exit end . The times I see people ending up with a full load at the wrong end to the gate way and then have to drag a loaded trailer all the way back .

If I remember correctly @Exfarmer was a DB man so traction was never a problem for him.
If you think traction isn't a problem with tandem axle trailers and 150hp tractors you need to experience a Northern Ireland summer.

Last year was at farm lifting beet. 400+ hp Jd crawler could not drag 15 tonne trailer onto concrete pad thanks to step and greasy pad , glad I was not part of team

You fill grain trailers on the move ? Hmm that's progress
