Hello all,

Many thanks to those of you who have already completed my survey which has been previously posted on this forum. We are now heading into the final period of recruitment before we analyse the findings and get some results back to you. So if you are yet to complete the survey, and are an arable farmer in the UK, please consider doing so. We will be using the findings to make recommendations on how future ag policy could best deliver biodiversity and carbon storage, given what farmers are willing to do, and the food production that would be lost in doing so.

The survey starts by presenting a number of different options which require you to either take land out of production and create some habitat (e,g. woodland, scrub, wetland) or to create smaller areas of habitat (e.g. hedgerows, winter bird cover, etc) or to make changes to how you actually farm (e.g. reduce fertiliser, switch to spring cropping, provide stubble etc.). You are asked to select your preferred option, in relation to the payments offered. It then goes into some questions about why you made those choices before asking for information about your farm. You can skip any questions you do not want to answer (you are required to enter a postcode put partial is fine).

Having completed the survey, you can opt to receive a summary of the research findings, a summary of our estimates of the costs and benefits of implementing the options discussed, and to be entered into a draw to win a subscription to Farmers Weekly (if that is of interest).

Please email me at [email protected] with any questions.

Many thanks in advance,
Lydia Collas
