Finishing Blues at Grass

Location

Why spend £100 a head, feeding grain to them, while they're outside at grass?
8kg x 90 days = over 700 kg a head x barley /wheat @ over £140 a tonne = over £100 / head.

Is grass finished beef not possible for where you are ? Or do you have a system that looks for maximum turnover of cattle?

.

Down here TB is a massive never ending problem alongside 60 day testing and grass keep is very expensive due to every man and his dog wanting it. ( not that you can put cattle on it because of TB regs anyway )

Very hard to get a proper fhinsh on BBx cattle thus why they will need barley, more you feed them now the sooner they will be gone, grass based fhinshing ( ie all grass ) is best done with breeds such as Angus/ Hereford etc that have been bred for the job over the last century or so.

You won't finish blues off grass I don't care what anyone says and £100 of corn is nothing for those cattle. Take 1100 for them in the ring now or 1400 when you've done them properly.
I agree blues won't finish on grass alone but I've never seen any other breed convert hard feed into meat as efficiently as they do.

Blues very hard to Finnish off grass .Finninshing them on a barley mix here fed through a hopper adlib blue cross heifers out of dairy cows plus a few from the Suckler cows gone by 24 months 60 since January averaged 390 kg 1400 quid.
Only one too fat once they reach 710 kg there in the trailer.
