Finishing Dairy bred stores

I have 45 Lim and Stabilizer cross heifers and steers that are 17 months old and about 420kg. They have been on grazed grass only last summer and high quality silage and whole crop wheat TMR from when they were housed at the end of November. I have sold 9 as stores recently and was a bit disappointed with the price for the last 5 which averaged about £1.85 kg. The first batch I sold were around £2.00 kg.
Looking at finished prices in the market yesterday I thought they would be worth about £2.30 finished at around 550kg.
My question is how much would it take to finish them of grass in about 4- 5 months. They would be on decent grazing. How much supplementary feeding would they be likely to require?
I would only keep the heifers or the steers, my brother in law will take the others.

With respect those cattle are weighing approx what they should weigh at 12-13 months of age.

If you plan to finish them by end of summer outdoors, they're going to need the kitchen sink throwing at them. You could well be better off £££ wise by selling as they are and letting someone else have a go.

They were gaining at 0.8kg/day while out at grass and have averaged around 0.5-0.6 kg/ day while housed. I would have expected them to do over 1kg/ day when they go out on grass alone. They have been reared on the same rations as my dairy heifer replacements that are about 6 weeks older than them. They will calve at 24 months old and hit target weights easily. They are now on restricted silage as they are getting too fat.

If you’ve got the ground I’d run them on all summer age will grow them. Then come back end they’ll only be 23-24 months.
Yeah i agree , they will be worth a fair bit come mid september and 550kg ish so all the feeding men will want them. Give them a quality wormer mid june.
