Finishing Sheep "Inside"

Same as yourself, not lambing till 1st April. All we need is for a few days of mild weather to get the grass growing. Not looking great at the moment though.
Used to always start here Patrick's day but this year pulled it back to 28th March. Maybe better 1st May the way this spring or lack of it is. But I am sure when the first one lands safe and grass starts coming it will all be forgotten. Thank God farmers have short memories!

If you want a temporary shelter for sheep one or a few of these would be worth a look. I used to help put some of these up at shows when i was in my teens and we never had one move even in serious winds when everyone elses blew away  we jusr put them up properly and filled 6 or 8 45 gallon drums with water and put ratchet straps over the top using the barrels as anchors. They wouldnt move an inch. Wed pin them down too but it was the barrels of water that would make the difference

I dont know theyre all much the same i think. I never bought any or took notice of the brands just put them up id buy the cheapest one you can find and just be careful putting it up and taking it down so you dont break any welds.
Sorry everyone we can get back to talking sheep now :D

What's your thoughts on ideal timing and weights for selling store lambs?

Normally the best time to sell store lambs is July. It is a great time to sell April born lambs so very few input costs and normally the price of fat is high and people usually have spare grass.
Best to sell twin lambs weighing around 32 - 35 kg. You can sometimes buy the same lambs for less money in November!

September if it is a grassy time often works as well. After that you have to wait until the fat price rises in the New year.

I always like selling a lot of store in the first couple of sale of the season, there always a good trade and you can get some money in the bank to play with. Last year getn 60£ for smallish April born beltex lambs, you were crazy not to sell them, this August who knows may be crazy or cheap all depends on brexit etc etc.*?

Store sales don't really get going until very late July/early August up here but I get the point that selling before the big numbers come out is a decent idea. Not sure about September, can be a bit of a glut particularly if fat trade is sluggish?

September is more of a lottery, but usually you will not have spent much money on them and you need to lighten the land to get the ewes in good order. Store lamb price seldom increases between September and December.
