Fire extinguishers

I thought that Sussex Martin had expressed reluctance to suppy to retail customers in the past:unsure:.
The problem is that we cannot give them a certificate unless our guy places them in the appropriate position and as we are office based that would be difficult. We are prepared to supply if your local guy is happy to commission the extinguishers without the margin he would earn on the supply.

Looking to buy a few of the above , any good suppliers

Google eastern extinguishers norfolk.
Same company that make the xform handler buckets.

They got a nice extinguisher bit more expensive but lasts longer and perform better.

You wont be able to buy direct as they only sell to trade. Although they did say they would supply me as i have an account already.

I really begrudge paying some idiot to "service" them though when all they do is make sure its in date, wipe the dust off, flick the gauge fit a new security tag and new oring to the hose which is really pointless cause theres never anything wrong with the old tag or oring and it wouldnt leak there anyway.

Anyone can do this anual test, there is no special training required. They just need to check it as above and a writen record then replace it when out of date but I rent so have to do as I'm told:mad:

That last paragraph is totally incorrect, our extinguisher guy had to do a four day course at great expense and sit exams and do some practical tests before he earned his certificate, he also has to attend a refresher course very 3 years to keep his certification up to date.
If the guy doing your servicing is not in possession of a valid certificate I would tell him to jog on as it would be you that carried the can if there was a fire and the extinguisher failed to operate. You are the responsible person and by law you should check that whoever does the job is suitably qualified.

But it's a 'special' O ring. At least thats what a 'professional' extinguisher service company tried to explain to me, when I questioned their invoice which itemised them out at £10 each.

Look them in the eye when they offer to exchange your old 'out of date' extinguishers for their 'completely refurbished' units. And ask them why they're considerably more expensive than a new extinguisher from the same manufacturer.

- "Nice f**kin' try mate, jog on".

There is a manufacturer that has recently gained approval for the extinguisher you mention but they are mega expensive and although they are making inroads within the industry many choose not to use them because of the initial outlay.
I’m not here to start or partake in any arguments about this, I am involved in the industry and have to abide by the rules set out within the British Standards. Anyone that needs impartial advise on extinguishers on here is welcome to ask and I will do my best to answer in an honest unbiased manner, I am not looking for sales as I explained above, Extinguishers are only a small part of our overall business.

I believe I was quoted about double compared to a standard foam one. £120ish?? okay so if your in the business you probably buy standard ones for a lot less than £60 to earn a living. but sure I was charged £60 for 9 litre foam?

baring in mind the life span of standard and these others and add the service cost it seems a no brainer to me? not to mention the fact they claim and have proven with there local fire brigade they actually out performed a standard one.

one of my foam 9litres is up for renewal this time next year so I will be buying an eastern one to replace it even if landlord insists it still has to be inspected. would rather buy it elsewhere than give his man my money for something that don't work as well.
