Is there a legal (or insurance) requirement to carry fire extinguishers in tractors when round baling straw for instance. Didn't want to ring up broker might tempt fate!!
Can only use a fire extinguisher if trained to do so
A couple of years back I was round baling some horse paddocks for hay, I finished the last one and jumped out to shut the gate, at which point I could smell something hot. Opened the side door to see that a bearing had gone and the dust round it was just starting to smoulder. Had I just left the gate open (which would have been sensible as they were carting the bales away) and carried on home, I don't think I'd have got far before it went up. Even more fortunately, as I didn't have an extinguisher, I looked about and right next to the gate was a water trough and a bucket, so everything was given a good soaking. Bought extinguishers the next day because I knew I'd never be that lucky again.Having had a bearing fail and bailer bellowing smoke out last weekend i would say its very sensible to have an extinguisher in the tractor. I had 2 delivered on wednesday
