Firearms Licensing

My GP practice filled in the form but forgot to send it in to the police as required via their internal secure system. They just sent me a paper copy. My application was rejected as a result, until I took it up with the commissioner asking why my application should be rejected when it wasn't myself at fault as I'd followed the instructions to the letter. They fairly rapidly unrejected and approved my application at that point. It really does annoy me when these folks get on their high horse after not even fully understanding their own procedures and instructions.

Indeed, the total deaths resulting from firearms is pretty small too, relatively speaking.

1. Police recorded crime data are not designated as National Statistics.
2. Injuries could be caused by either the firearm being fired or used as a blunt instrument.
3. A serious injury is one which requires a stay in hospital or involves fractures, concussion, severe general shock, penetration by a bullet or multiple shot wounds.
Well that table shows very clearly the hand guns crimes are very high and 47% of the deaths clearly shows that it is illegal guns that are the problem as they banned bar 2 shot for humane dispatch and these are on an even stricter license again

My FAC and SGC have arrived in the post this week.

D&C police only ask for your G.P practice address, they don't even ask who your G.P is - I wouldn't have a clue who mine was as dozens have come and gone since I last saw a doctor.

During the renewal I have had no contact with my health centre and I don't expect to see an invoice.

It varies across the country, each constabulary seems to operate and require different details. When I did my registration last it was just a house & security visit,as previously.

My Shotgun renewal arrived last week. Pre written Doctors letter enclosed for me to send to my GP surgery. Contacted surgery yesterday. Asked me to scan letter and email to the surgery. Surgery will raise an invoice for £60 payable before the letter is forwarded to Linc Police.

I have also found out a friends wife was refused renewal as some several years ago she underwent a course of anti depressants.

Having seen the Doctor letter is appears to me the Police is undertaking an operation to make owning a shotgun so difficult that folk like me - who only go shooting three or four times a year for social purposes really give up their guns. Then the Police will crow how they have reduced the number of weapons in society.

Ah well.

That was the case here in Lincs last renewal six years ago. And that time there wasn't even a visit. But this is the news system I assume.

You download the doctors form but the rest you fill out on line, they say it takes 20 minutes but you can’t save it as you fill it in so if you can’t complete it in one go you start again.

Shite page design IMO. I d/l mine and submitted as hardcopy, then had the FA dept moaning it was late submitted.... "No", you hadn't opened it love.... I sent it Rec delivery so knew!

The incompetence of the police is truly staggering. I wonder how many officers could pass the citizens' test that immigrants have to pass to become UK citizens? This is a serious question. Some sort of general knowledge test should be required. We assume our public servants know their jobs and we often accept what they say without question. But do they?

It is very much not limited to the police. Utilities are in a similar vein and Water Plus are so spectacularly incompetent you would think it was a prank or something.

I fear you may be right. They will want to come and lean against my gun cabinet at the very least I would think.
I remember being really upset when they did that to mine - I had spent ages, cutting skirting boards, resin bonding bolts into walls, expanding bolts into solid concrete floors and mastic sealing the cabinet to the wall (to keep my wife happy) and the FAO just gave it a gentle nudge with a finger. Mastic or velcro would have been sound enough for that !!!!
