What if doctor writes back stating applicant won't attend a charged appointment?

There is no appointment.

All it is, is a form that gets filled in - probably by the lass at the front desk - that your doc then signs and asks for £20 for the privilege.

The govt. police and union of GPs all agreed before the new forms came into use that there would be no charges for this... But almost all doctors practices are charging for this 'service'.

I only see my doc every 10 years or whatever it is to renew my HGV. How would he know if I was fit to have a gun or not?
He can only say he doesn't know of a reason why I shouldn't have one, he wouldn't know me from Adam.

That's how they know your fit to hold a gun. If you were not mentally fit (known), it would be on your records.

This form means your GP actually now knows you hold a firearm.

The police had to pay for mine, 2011 they told me I had to pay but I'd read an article in the NGO magazine saying the applicant didn't have to pay, I told him that and heard no more about it!
Renewed last year and no doctors appointment or fees mentioned.

BASC advises applicants to refuse to pay any fee demanded. Should the doctor refuse to participate without money, the guidance states that after 21 days, if there is no response from the doctor, it will be assumed that there are no medical issues.

Ha! Police Scotland took FIVE months to get a response from my health centre. They say they wrote, waited two months, then wrote again, waited two months, then wrote again ands got a response within one month. After they'd got that response, the doctor reported back within ten days. Of course, if they'd told me what I had done wrong or what information they wanted, I could have chased it up.

Sorry to keep harping on about the siezure of my guns but constant repetition seems to be the only way I can defend myself. The Police Investigations and Reviews Commissioner agreed that the delays were unreasonable (ten months before they told me what I was meant to have done wrong!) and the chief inspector has since apologised for the length of time it all took.

At my meeting with the police re:seized guns, they asked me how I could convince them I was a suitable person to possess firearms. I told them that was a damn stupid question! (Which it is). If I'd been quicker on my feet, I would have asked them how they could convince me they were not all paedophiles! (No answer to that one either).

(If you missed the earlier episodes, I have my guns back and also a renewal of my open firearms certificate. I think they'd have looked even more stupid if I'd had to take it to appeal).

My son had an interview with our firearms officer the other morning, Just happened to be the same day he had the letter from the quacks demanding £25 for "information that the police Require". The Firearms officer said don't pay as they do not require any information from them.

It seems that HMG have said that doctors have to note on patients records that they are firearm holders and only contact them if there is a problem.

Loved the look on the doctors receptionist face when I told her this and that he wasn't going to pay £25 to type a few words on his records.

Police brought it in and it is extra work for the GP not part of their NHS contract. Round here no fee, no report. I like the idea that paying £20 for a 'signature' is excessive when that lasts 5 years and plenty will pay £30 to shoot a pheasant.
Next time you are here spreading some slurry I will get you to cut the hedge as well as you are here anyway so why charge when the tax-payers already give you support?
