With the amount of field fires around here must have been at least 20 so far that we have seen this year it really is or has got to the point where people should only cut at night or very early mornings . Had a big one down here yesterday started by claydon straw rake jumped a main A road and took 100 acres of chopped stubbles . Today neighbour at 12 sh had a fire lost4-5 acres of standing barley and trees and wood on fie . Just take care people fire can be nasty thing .

This is first day in 5 that there's not been smoke visible from here. Farm where 2nd son is working has knocked off combining today for that reason.
They're starting again later this evening.

yes ,if we are to get drier times fire risk and how to deal with it when/if it arises , will have to be part of peoples education or else even more huge resources are going to be wasted .

not sure which is worse to deal with fire or flood

Shrewsbury flower show have had the good sense to cancel the fireworks display, which must’ve cost them a bit and folks used to flock to see it . Some idiots in our village, let some off just as the winter barley was ripening with a burnt patch found in the next grass field .

Speaking to chap down Blandford Forum way the other night and big fires that way too, smoke closing roads etc.
Farmer/contractor Baler outfit started a fire as allegedly a stone caught in the chamber and as ram struck it sparked and lit bales up???

LLoyds at Hixon have 52 combines to collect next week , all cooked
That's mental but could believe it, yesterday was the first day this week I haven't seen a fire, a lot around here are finished or almost, but fields and fields of chopped straw sat there, tinder dry.
Apparently a big local fire near here was caused by some idiots having a barbecue on the side of the road, stubble fields had bales in them, all went up.

The farmer would feel like chucking the feckin' eedjits onto their own BBQ!

I would be tempted to run a set of discs round all roadside fields at the moment...

It would depend if the fields in question have a bad BG problem.........!! I have two that I wouldn't mind going up!!
