We had a lot of oak trees come down four or five years ago now so though we could do something with them. With lads locally delivering trailer loads for £50 it would of cost us less to pile them together with the digger and use £20 notes to start the fire!!! we’ve now got oak rings in every shed, corner nook and cranny you can think of and will be sorted for bext decade!!!

Oak is ace, splits perfectly when green. You can't beat it.

And you only need half as much as most other!!!
But you can’t really charge much more for it and you don’t want wood to last for ever on fires you need customers to buy more wood . I find it a bit of a pain for burning Beach is a much better wood to burn gives good heat and a nice flame to look at oak just smoulders away

Unseasoned hardwood delivered by the artic load is being pushed out by some at roughly £100 a ton delivered, some people are selling kiln dried hardwood for £50 a builders dumpy. It's impossible to compete going about it that way. I have cut some hedgerows off and will log that up to sell, it wont be the most aesthetic firewood but it will be the only way to compete on price.

Send some of that my way please . I’ll take as much of I could get at £ 100 ton cut up .
Kiln dried up north goes for around £70 a bag .
I’ve priced match that as my logs are seasoned in a more sustainable way therefore worth more

What sort of do you get for standing wood at the moment?
€15 per m3 we did the last couple of years. It's not like people are queing up to do it but we seem to have enough interest. This winter we had no interest really so we decided to just lay a piece of wood down and chip everything that fits in the chipper (up to 30 cm). Fast forward to now, some people are asking for wood. Good thing we haven't chipped it yet so we'll sell it anyway. Just had the expence of felling it, which was about a good days work with the two of us.
So hey, doesn't always go as planned.

I've been offered:
£15 per meter ( stack measured and 40% deduction for air space )

£60 per meter for saw log
Which is measured per log on a round timber app we use

We have the felling licence and can fell the trees but no forwarder/ timber trailer to extract the wood. Trying to decide if it's worth the effort of felling ourselves and hiring a contractor to move the wood or just let the person above crack on.
