Firewood price.

Have recently cleared trees from a parcel of land. The trees are mainly Ash and Beech. We have limbed them and removed the trash and they are sitting in two large piles stacked by digger. There would be approx four forty foot wagon loads. My question is this, how much a ton is this worth?

I have similar sitting in a pile in Armagh, for 3 yrs now, plenty looking for free, but none want to pay !!

Yea sadly not worth as much as you would think unless you cut it and net bag it which is a PITA,

None of the firewood men will pay for it as they all want it FOC.

You could try ringing Mckinstry's Biomass as they are hungry for wood but I still think it will be silver leaving your hand too theirs or they will just clear it FOC

The amount of work in converting tree trunks into firewood and the end product price mitigate against paying much for the raw material, especially as it needs to be dry so you have to hang on to it under cover.

This is what's left after I gave about twice as much away to deserving friends, neighbours etc. Been approached by firewood people and with what they offered me I will burn it in the middle of the field first. So I thought I would check on here. It cost me money to put it in piles as an extra digger and grab was on the job to sort/load/pile. If I had realised at the time we would have been better just to sweep it into a lump and torch it.

Unless there are big pieces fit to ring up the firewood guys are as cauld as sheugh water. Had a couple of massive sycamore go here a few years back and let a guy do all the work and just take it.
Burned a pile of Damson and Elder earlier in summer that would been hard to give away.

Funny things, farmers.
Chuck away stuff they consider to be waste, that they could make a few quid out of.
Then buy other people's waste to spread on their fields and pollute/devalue them.
All so as they can ride around on their rses playing tonka toys.

We've been cutting up some big oaks recently. Loads of firewood about so I've offered it FOC to some in the village if they come and cut and collect. A few have . I have also cut up some and delivered it to the elderly in small crates .

It's time consuming though cos you just have to have a coffee and a piece of cake when delivering 🙂🙂

Why dont u get some1 to make the beech into fence posts or planks? We deliver straw to a man that had this done with a few of his big trees and he said it worked out cheaper than buyin it also its not made from quick growing trees that leaves u with rotten fence posts in a few years
