First lambs of the season gone

Pleased to say the first of our new season lambs have gone, our local butcher rang and asked if we would have any ready for Mothering Sunday two weeks ago, to which I replied maybe. Well I have found 6 lambs which went on Monday, they averaged 41kg liveweight at 11 weeks old and have killed out at 20.5 dead, so very pleased with that. Helped by one exceptional lamb 46 kilo liveweight 24 deadweight.
These were Suffolk sired lambs out of Suffolk cross BFL ewes, that have been weaned for about 3 weeks.

The breeding your own replacement ram thread spring to mind wen you hear of an 11 week old lamb killing 24kg.

I wonder how many pedigree Rams would do that????

I will have some pedigrees that match that live weight, I will never know if they do dead weight as too late at that stage to be a ram.

I do breed my own rams, all of these lambs were the commercials, sorting through the pedigree's tomorrow to do the initial selection.

Well done! Grass only?
Any idea on this seasons price compared to last years on new season?

No sadly not grass only, these have been finished inside, our grass has only started growing last week. Ours is nearly all old pp on stewardship low inputs, it seemed a good idea at the time.
As this is a private deal direct with the butcher we are on the same price as last year at the minute. I like to gauge my price for the time I am selling on the easter week prices.
