UK dairy co-operative First Milk has announced it will hold its current milk price for July 2020.
This means its liquid standard litre will remain at 26.75p/L, whilst its manufacturing standard litre will remain at 27.63p/L, both including its member premium.
Commenting on the announcement, Jim Baird, vice-chairman and farmer director, said: “The backdrop of uncertainty resulting from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic means that it remains hard to predict the likely impact on milk prices going forward.
Despite this, we will continue to do all we can to provide as much stability as possible for our members, whilst working to maximise returns.
First Milk has around 800 farmer members. The firm produces a range of Cheddar, Red Leicester and Double Gloucester – the majority of which is sold through its partner, Ornua.
First Milk exports cheese to more than 26 countries. In addition to cheese, the firm produces bulk butter, cream and whey proteins.
New farmer director
First Milk recently announced it has appointed Pembrokeshire farmer Mike Smith will join its board as its new farmer director.
Smith is a First Milk has represented fellow suppliers since 2011, firstly as an area representative and latterly on the First Milk Member Council.
It comes as farmer director and current vice-chairman Jim Baird reaches the end of his third term as a farmer director and must, therefore, stand down from the board.
