First to reach 1000 Posts

As a former member (before I was Banned) of BFF my betting is on Walter Price.

As I am from Wales, Welsh posters on BFF had more in common, and I therefore took more notice of their posts, after all Wales is largely a Stock (and Bager) rearing area, and I had little interest in the arable discussions.

Welsh posters, particularly in the areas that interested me, were particularly vociferous.

If past performance on BFF is anything to go by then I would expect the following (Clive excepted) to be in the Top Ten.

Walter Price
Forage Trader
The Duck
Cowabunga
Fan Wen
and Penmoel.

Other suggestions are welcome.

Whoever gets the first to 1000 posts will receive 50 likes from me.

If there is more than one winner, I reserve the right to share the prize.

Won't be me:(

A good question. I was banned, but no reason was given, and I do not know who made the decision.

BFF members came from all the constituent areas of the UK and further afield.

I am from Wales and have Nationalist/Liberal/Socialist tendancies.

I am a Republican not a Monarchist, and took a dim view of HM Government bleeding the rest of the UK to fund the Olympics with no benefit.

Blue as his name suggests is a True Blue dyed in the Wool Monarchist, and my views were unacceptable to him and BFF Moderators of the same ilk.

I readily acknowledge that my posts were at times provocative, but this was done to stimulate debate.

As Bob Dylan said nearly 40 years ago, "The times they are a changin'" and with devolution Agriculture in Scotland, Wales and NI will move further and further away from the English model.

Having said that we all share a common destiny, and have knowledge to share with each other.

Most of my clients it were not for SFP would be loss making.

This I suspect is true of Livestock and Milk Producers throught the UK.

There was a vociferous band of anti Europe posters on BFF. Some of these were moderators. I made my views fairly clear, and upset some people, which may have influenced the decision to ban me.

In theory at least, Politics has no place on an Agricultural Forum, as all members are either directly or indirectly making a living off the land.

If however someone brings in a "Political" element into any topic, I reserve the right to respond with my own views.

I readily admit that some of my posts were provocative, but these in the main as far as I can remember were threads that had nothing to do with day to day farming. Many of the original posters were just as opinionated as me.

I come from a background where a spade is called a spade, and plain speaking is the order of the day.

Not everyone agrees with my views, but most respect me for my honesty.

Freedom of expression is in my view important, and Censorship is Anathema.

In a civilised society we should be able to agree to disagree.

I never deliberately set out to make enemies, but give as good (if not better or worse depending on your perspective) than I get.

Many on BFF thanked for my "advice" and input.

I hope I can also contribute to this Forum.

Most importantly I will never let my opinions or those of the mods get in the way of fair debate !

Just because I don't agree with someone they are not getting kicked off

This is important , very important IMO

something the mods on bff bid not practice imo
i occasional thought that the mods were slow(er)to react to malicious posts,if they agreed with the poster

IANTO, I also believe in free speech and am more than happy that you can have your say, I know for a fact that I will not agree with all of your opinions going on past experiences. Issues become clouded however when some believe that their opinion is infact the only one that matters. I am certain that there will be many 'lively debates' to come and look forward to them.
I am by the way a Royalist and believe in the union that is the UK, I would hate to see the break up of this union as I do not believe anyone would be better off for it.

Clive,

Amongst my various voluntary work over the years, I have been involved with Charitable Societies who had Bulletin Boards. It is 2 years, since I was last involved, but my understanding of the Law at that time, was that both the poster and Board Owner could be sued if defamotory comments were posted. The Board owner has a let out, in that if as soon a complaint was made and the "defamation" was brought to his attention, and the post in question was deleted, there would be no further comebacks on him.

There is a fine line between safeguarding yourself ( I would presume that this forum is owned by a seperate Ltd Co) and Censorship or Freedom of Speech.

BFF took a Belt and Braces approach and banned or deleted everything that they thought might be controversial even though it was already in the Public Domain.

I have no objection to posts being deleted, but would welcome the opportunity to provide documentary evidence for my statements.

This was not possible with BFF.

Posts and Threads were deleted at the whim of the Moderators without consultation, and no right of appeal.

From time to time, you may need to delete posts or threads, but in mho it should only be done after giving the offending poster an opportunity to justify his statements with concrete information.

In the meantime the thread could be locked or suspended.

I will be taking proper advice on this and not just guessing

As I currently understand things the recent twiter liable case set a bit of a precedent, twiter acted correctly and removed published comments when requested and were deemed to have acted correctly so suffered no legal consequence

The legal action was then between the posters of the libellous comments and the injured party

I think as contributors to forums you need to be careful about what you say and ensure they are accurate and you can defend your actions in court if need be. As a forum owner I am less concerned as long as we always act as requested

I will of course take advice to make sure we are always on the right side of the law - BFF. Mods and owners were paranoid without real reason to be so IMO

There is a line and I think we have a great mod team that will keep things on the right side of that
